Preparing for a case with 〜場合は, and expressing “although / even though” with 〜のに.

Condition

“In the case that A, (do) B”: plain form / N の + 場合は.

故障の　場合は、ボタンを　押してください。

こしょうの　ばあいは、ボタンを　おしてください。

場合 (“case, situation”) attaches to the plain form, an い/な-adjective, or a noun + の (地震の場合は). It sets up what to do in a particular situation.

～のに、…のに — although / even though

Although のに

Contrary to expectation: “although A, (unexpectedly) B”.

約束したのに、彼は　来ませんでした。

やくそくしたのに、かれは　きませんでした。

Even though he promised, he didn't come.

のに joins two clauses where the second is contrary to what the first leads you to expect, often with a nuance of surprise, dissatisfaction or regret. Na-adj/noun add な: 元気なのに.
